Dr. Martina Steiner, recipient of a 2024 Graduate Faculty Teaching Award in Early Career Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship.

Dr. Steiner received her MSc in Biochemistry from ETH Zurich in Switzerland and her PhD in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences at ETH Zurich. She also holds an MEd in Secondary and Higher Education as a certified science teacher. She has taught science in four countries across Europe and North America with online and in-person teaching in multiple settings and disciplines.

Dr. Steiner is a tenure-track Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Molecular Genetics. She co-developed the novel MHSc in Medical Genomics and is teaching graduate courses in this program. For this program, she designed courses such as Genomic Methodologies, and Communication of Genetic Information. She is also the coordinator for Communications, Careers and Alumni Relations for the Department. She developed and leads a mentorship program for graduate students in the Department (MoGen Career Connections) and organizes career seminars and the annual career symposium.
