Jayme MuirMSc Physical Therapy
Student Name: Jayme Muir
Country of Origin: Chatham, ON. Canada
Pre-MSc/PhD Education: Bachelor of Arts Kinesiology (Honors Specialization), Western University

Recent Research Experience:
Although unconventional, I have participated in research in a few different ways. At Western University, I acted as the Research Assistant for Succeed Clean in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. In this role I worked towards educating young people and educators about the risks and realities of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs. I administered and collected pre- and post-presentation surveys as part of the School Visits and Community Outreach Programs. I also worked with the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre, in a partnership with the Ministry of Education, as an administrator and teacher facilitator for the Students as Researchers (StAR) Conference and Experience Ontario program. I helped to develop innovative and dynamic leadership and research workshops and facilitated course sessions on work habits and workplace safety, innovation, creativity, research, and entrepreneurship for students. It was an absolute honour in both roles to be a part of empowering and exciting youth about the power of research.

Current Research Experience:
The Masters of Physical Therapy program is a professional masters program, and part of our MScPT program includes participating in a research curriculum. We are in the process of ranking our project preferences and being assigned to a project with 5 peers. We are expected to plan a study and write an ethics protocol, collect and analyze the data, and present our final results. There are a variety of projects, both quantitative and qualitative, which provide us with an excellent opportunity to participate in research in our second year of study.

Why Faculty of Medicine
I chose the Faculty of Medicine at U of T for my graduate studies because there were endless opportunities within the faculty! We have access to many amazing internship opportunities, and are taught by leading professionals, researchers, and educators in Physical Therapy. It also gave me the amazing opportunity build new personal and professional relationships within a new city and community.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals:
Upon completion of my MScPT degree, I hope to pursue a career that will allow me to combine three of my passions: My love for physical therapy, leadership, and working with youth. I hope to gain more insight into what this might look like, as I continue to be exposed to new environments and build more connections throughout my clinical internships.
