Why Faculty of Medicine?
I have not always known exactly what I wanted to study or the future career I wanted to pursue but, I have always had a strong passion for science. With this in mind I knew the Faculty of Medicine was the right fit for me. It allows students the opportunity to learn and explore their passions in whichever field they choose. This faculty properly equips their students with the knowledge and skills needed to create a successful future.
Why this Department?
I have always had a passion for pharmacy and therapeutics. To me studying pharmacology provides the perfect opportunity to gain knowledge on both the biological and clinical aspects of medicine. It is a field that can prepare you for a future in whichever path you chose to take, whether it be medical, pharmaceutical, graduate or any other direction. To me this was important as I wanted the opportunity to change my future pathway as I had the chance to learn more. The department also challenges their students not to just memorize a textbook but to truly understand the mechanisms by which drugs, chemicals and our body operate.
Current Research Experience:
I am currently working with Dr. Gautam Sethi at the National University of Singapore. My current research is looking at Bruceine D and investigating the potential anticancer effects it possesses. I am performing various tests on breast cancer cell lines in order to elucidate any potential for the formulation of a new therapeutic.
Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals:
My current plan is to gain as much experience as possible in different fields related to pharmacology so I can have the proper knowledge to select the career I most want in my future. Once I complete my undergraduate I hope to attend medical school or further pursue graduate studies. One thing I know for sure is I want to take every opportunity I can to learn more and foster a greater appreciation for the education I am receiving.
