Why Faculty of Medicine?
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto provides a world-renowned standard of education, while providing diverse and exciting research and leadership opportunities to its students. Due to its reputation, the faculty has attracted teams of spectacular professors and researchers who are pursuing truly novel, important and fascinating projects. I chose this faculty because of the quality of the education, and the incredible opportunity to engage with such a research environment as an undergraduate.

Why this Department?
I chose the Department of Immunology because of my fascination with the immune system. I have remained captivated by its simultaneous responsibility in maintaining one’s health and potential to cause dysfunction and disease.

Current Research Experience
I am currently a research assistant in the New Alberto Lab. We are working to uncovering the etiology of colorectal cancer, looking specifically at the mechanism by which butyrate enhances colonicyte proliferation in mismatch-repair deficient organisms.

Future education plans and/or career goals.
Through my time as an undergraduate I have focused on both immunology and global health. After graduation, I hope to apply my knowledge from both fields, and pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH). Afterwards, I hope to enter the field of medicine, with the goal of becoming an emergency room doctor. I endeavor to eventually become involved in heath policy so I may work to improve the national and international medical landscape.
