Current Research:
I began my graduate training in 2012 as a Master’s student, thereafter reclassifying into the PhD program in 2013. The pursuit of my PhD stemmed from a curiosity of the biological sciences and a quest for discovery. Currently, I am investigating aspects of cellular and molecular biology in relation to early pre-implantation development. My work aims to elucidate microRNA regulation of stem cell fate, with specific focus on trophoblast stem cells, the progenitors of the placenta, as they offer an exciting new approach to the characterization of the many placenta-related pathologies of pregnancy.

Why Faculty of Medicine?
The power of scientific knowledge gained through careful research has allowed for preservation of lives and a healthier population. Research has revealed the complexity of many pathological conditions for which cures continue to be sought. I joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto because I envisioned that, with it's collection of world renowned scientists, research facilities, worldwide collaborations and access to clinical settings, it would provide the stimulating environment through which I could begin my scientific investigation of these pathological conditions.

Future Education Plans and/or Career Goals:
Scientific exposure achieved through the attendance of international conferences, mentoring and training undergraduate students in the lab, being a member of the Graduate Association of Students in Physiology, and being given the opportunity to become a Teaching Assistant, have all contributed to my growth as a researcher. Overall, my experience in graduate school has further peaked my interest in discovery and has provided the drive for my future career in research. My goal is to train and attain my PhD by 2017-2018 with the help of my mentor, Dr. Brian Cox and his collaborators, and peruse post-doctorate opportunities.
