Born and raised in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, I am very excited to be doing research at the University of Toronto. I currently attend Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, majoring in Physics. I have always been interested in the medical field and my interest in physics was sparked by my high school teacher who was very passionate about the subject. As a result, I am especially interested in medical physics research, specifically medical imaging in relation to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. I would like to pursue a PhD in medical physics. At Mount A., I mentor first year science students to help them succeed in their transition to university. I was also Head Residence Assistant of my residence this past year and I volunteered at a breakfast program in a local middle school. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, playing bass and guitar and watching Jeopardy!

I am excited that the Amgen Scholars Program gives me the opportunity to learn about how theoretical physics is applied in this area of research. Making the connection between the theory I learn in the classroom to how it is applied in the laboratory will strengthen and further my understanding of research in medical physics as a whole. I am also looking forward to learning the logistics behind how to design and execute a research study, while picking up any other pieces of information that is offered throughout my research position.

The Amgen Scholars Program will be a good opportunity to further my education and build on my previous research experience. It will also provide me with experience in a new field of research and work with accomplished, experienced researchers. I am looking forward to meeting like-minded students and making connections that I can carry with me through my student and professional career.
