Rashi Ramchandani

Born in India, I immigrated to Canada when I was 4-years old. Being from a family of engineers, I learnt the importance of critical thinking and adopting a problem-solving based mindset from an early age. Nevertheless, I was drawn to the field of healthcare due to my interest in the biological sciences and some great mentors I have had along the way. Recently, I completed my third year in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program at Queen’s University (Kingston) and will be starting medical school this September at the University of Ottawa. Apart from academics, in my free time I enjoy going on hikes with my family, bouldering and learning new forms of dance!

In the past I have conducted research in field of allergy and clinical immunology by investigating the role of the nasal microbiome in allergic rhinitis and evaluating gene expression in individuals with allergies; the latter of which was granted the NSERC undergraduate student research award. I have first- and co-authored numerous review papers and abstracts. With a passion for evidence-based medicine, I am thrilled to be extending my research interest in translational medicine this summer by studying immunological tolerance pathways post-lung transplantation under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Juvet.

Through the AMGEN scholars’ program, I hope to cultivate my interest in academia while developing my interpersonal and technical knowledge base. I am thrilled to get the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research while also networking with like-minded individuals.
