Awarded annually to celebrate and honour faculty members whose research has led to signficant impact beyond academia.

All nominations from the Temerty Faculty of Medicine must be endorsed by the Office of the Vice Dean, Research & Health Science Education. Harvey Prize

Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowship
Election to the Fellowship of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) is considered one of the highest honours within Canada’s academic community. Fellows are nominated by their peers and institutions and selected in a competitive process based on their internationally recognized leadership, academic performance, scientific creativity and willingness to serve.

Royal Society of Canada medal awarded every two years to recognize outstanding research in a branch of astronomy, chemistry, mathematics, physics, or an allied science, carried out mainly in the eight years preceding the date of the award, but all the research of the candidate is taken into account.

Royal Society of Canada medal awarded annually to recognize important research of sustained excellence in any branch of medical sciences.

Rutherford Memorial Medal
Royal Society of Canada medal awarded annually to recognize outstanding research in any branch of physics and chemistry.

Anyone can apply, but some preference will be given to candidates whose age is not over forty in the year of the award.

Community-Based Research Excellence Awards
Recognizes excellence in community-based research, an alternative research approach to traditional academic research that requires incredible dedication, time, energy, and skills. 

There are two awards offered annually; one requires that faculty members be within five years of appointment.

Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships
Recognizes early-stage academic researchers in the natural sciences and engineering and support them to enhance their research capacity, so that they can become leaders in their field and inspire others.

Eligible candidates must have held an independent academic position for 10 years or less as of June 1 of the year of nomination and hold a grant from NSERC.*

Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research
Awarded biennially to up to three young leaders in cancer research who are making significant contributions to the understanding of cancer or are improving the treatment of the disease through basic or clinical research.

Nominees are required to be age 45 or younger on the date of the submission deadline.

Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research
Awarded annually to an individual of international stature who best exemplifies Dr. Henry G. Friesen’s prescience, organizational creativity and broad impact on health research and health research policy.

Killam Prize
Awarded to active Canadian scholars who have made a substantial and distinguished contribution to their respective fields in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences or engineering.

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Inductee
Inductees are those who have made outstanding contributions to medicine and the health sciences, which have led to extraordinary improvements in human health. Their work may be a single meritorious contribution or a lifetime of superior accomplishments.

Dorothy Killam Fellowships
Supports scholars of exceptional ability by granting them time to pursue research projects of broad significance and widespread interest within the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering or studies linking any of these disciplines.

Nominees are early- to mid-career researchers (typically have completed their PhD no more than 15 years prior).

Steacie Prize for Natural Sciences
Presented annually to a scientist or engineer of 40 years of age or less for outstanding scientific research in the natural sciences carried out in Canada.

Extensions beyond the 40 year age requirement are permitted for official leaves, including parental and sick leave, and must be specified in the nomination letter.

Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research
Awarded annually to individuals or teams of up to three researchers for outstanding early-career research in a mental health discipline. 

Individuals under 45 years of age or teams up to three recipients under 45 years of age, who hold an MD (or equivalent) or PhD and are affiliated with Canadian academic or clinical research institutions.

Recognizes 2 mid-career investigators working in Canada who in their last 6 active years have produced exceptional scientific research contributions with continued potential for impact on human health. 

Individuals who are 10-15 years past their first independent research appointment working in Canada.

Sloan Research Fellowships are two-year fellowships awarded annually in recognition of outstanding early-career faculty who have the potential to revolutionize their fields of study.

Recognizes breakthrough research in pure or applied life science research that is distinguished by its excellence, originality, and impact on our understanding of biological systems and processes. Particular emphasis will be placed on research which champions novel approaches and challenges accepted thinking in the biomedical sciences.

Royal Society (UK) Fellowship
The Royal Society is the UK's National Academy of Science, a self-governing Fellowship made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers and technologists from the UK and the Commonwealth. Candidates must have made 'a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science and medical science'.
